Alara River

The Alara River of Antalya is an important river originating from the Taurus Mountains. Alara River, which takes its source at the foothills of Akdag and Gulluk Mountain,
flows through Alanya district and flows into the Mediterranean Sea. With a total length of more than 60 kilometres, Alara River is one of the important sources of irrigation and drinking water. Its width usually varies between 15-20 metres. The area around the stream is full of natural beauty and is an important destination for many touristic activities. Alara River attracts visitors with its clear waters and impressive views. Nature walks and picnics along the river are also popular activities in the region. Alara River is one of the important rivers of the region with its natural beauties and technical features.
The Alara stream has a reputation as an ideal playground for rafting and has a WW III+ rating (except for one WW VI waterfall). Especially in late summer, it offers the best time for canoe tours for 3-5 people. Tour lengths generally vary between 15-28 km. The main entry point, located west of Guzelbag village, is an ideal starting point for regular tours ranging between 15-20 km. Alara Castle and Alarahan are usually the final destination of the tours.
The land around the Alara River is remarkable for its rough rocks, rock walls and untouched nature. There are also ancient bridges dating back to the Romans. Water springs and natural sand banks offer excellent opportunities for recreation breaks. The river is characterised by spectacular mid-wild water between visible rocks and boulders. Although the river is generally considered a 'safe river' throughout, there is a waterfall that can be characterised as WW VI. Rafting at this point is not recommended and boats are usually transported over the waterfall. In spring and early summer the high water level creates exciting waves and plugs, making for an unforgettable adventure.
